Arild, Head of Innovation at Paxster, knew how to build electric vehicles. He needed to know if the digital ecosystem behind them could carry Paxster's autonomous mobility vision.
Arild Brudeli has spent nearly three decades turning ideas into real, physical things, CAD/CAM, prototyping, automation, robotics, and for the last several years, electric drivetrains and lithium-ion battery systems. As Head of Innovation at Paxster, he’s the person driving the company’s push into greener, smarter mobility, — self-described as “on a mission for a change to green mobility,” and someone who says solving technical problems is what makes his day.
He Built the Vehicles.
Paxster builds vehicles and digital products for last-mile distribution, fleet operations, vehicle intelligence, and sustainable mobility. Its last-mile product line was originally developed with Norway Post to handle high-volume, high-frequency deliveries, and has since become the daily workplace of thousands of couriers and drivers. Arild’s team knew exactly how to build that, — hardware, drivetrains, electrification, and all of it.
The Question Hardware Couldn’t Answer
But Paxster’s next chapter wasn’t a vehicle problem, — it was an autonomous mobility vision that needed a fully connected digital ecosystem: real-time visibility, fleet management, geofencing across jurisdictions, and a backend built to scale globally. That was a different discipline entirely, and one Arild’s in-house engineering expertise couldn’t solve alone. That’s what brought him to Rubico.
Arild's team did everything right for the stage they were at, — Paxster had built a genuinely successful vehicle line and a last-mile product used by thousands of couriers daily. But an autonomous mobility vision raised questions no vehicle engineering team is built to answer on its own:
“How do we scale this platform as we add vehicles and users across new European markets?”
“How do we make sure vehicle data stays accurate once it's flowing through multiple third-party systems?”
“How do we apply different safety and compliance rules in every city we operate in, — without rebuilding the product every time a rule changes?”
Paxster had the vehicles. It didn't yet have a software foundation built to scale, modernize, and adapt the way the vision required. That's the gap Rubico came in to close.

What began as an application build has evolved into a long-term strategic technology partnership, with Rubico continuing to modernize and evolve the platform.
Rubico built the platform on Flutter, — one shared codebase across Paxster’s applications — and engineered it as a connected system, not a list of isolated features, addressing three compounding challenges at once:
Scalability
An architecture that let the platform grow from an initial live-tracking request into two full applications (Paxster Last Mile and Paxster Utility), geofencing, backend modernization, and global payments — without starting over at each stage.
Backend & Database Modernization
An in-progress database migration and modernization, API restructuring, and a Laravel → Node.js backend transition, replacing legacy architecture with a foundation built for what comes next.
Compliance
Geofencing built as a configurable digital control layer: polygon-based zones, per-zone policies, and a dynamic city-level regulation model, — so new safety and compliance rules apply by geography without re-engineering the product every time a jurisdiction changes.
Alongside this, Rubico delivered live autonomous vehicle tracking, last-mile service navigation, vehicle intelligence (remote diagnostics, charging alerts, service reminders), and local-and-global payment integration (Vipps + Stripe), — all on the same connected foundation.
